My translation:
The Tokyo National College of Technology was studying the ground water in Hachioji.
Posted online on May 24, 2011

The College saw the news that radiation was detecting in the Hachioji tap water.

The school uses ground water so it tests the water every month. Since April of this year, the school has been recording the water quality, including the levels of radiation found in the water.

In April there was no radiation detected in the water.
In May, there was a small amount of radiation detected, however it was a very small trace amount. The amount detected was found to be under the minimum levels allowed by the "Food Sanitation Law" (the exact amount was not stated in the article).

The radiation levels were found to be 1/20 to 1/30 (5%-3%) of the minimum safe food intake levels set by the Nuclear Safety Commission. This amount, if ingested, is not harmful to the human body.

The school will continue to closely monitor the ground water regularly. The findings from these tests will be announced regularly for everyone.

自分の意見: My personal thoughts

You can't be too happy with the results here. They do not tell the levels of the radiation, they only state that the levels are below the safety standards. Did you know the Japanese Standards are set very high on purpose? They are not really "safety" standards, rather, they are corporate standards that are set to protect the government or the companies from liability. I would still drink bottled water just in case, if you have the means.

  1. I just found out today from a neighbor friend that the gov't increased the safety standards of the water 20 times the usual amount BEFORE They announced the water test results so they would be UNDER the allowable amount of radiation.
    That's really messed up!!!!
